Description
AMES 483: Business Japanese
This course is designed to teach Japanese with emphasis on the purpose of the professions. It is designed for students who are at an interededaite level in the ACTFL guideline.
AMES180: Intermediate Japanese I and II or equivalent level is prerequisite. The goal of the course is to improve four langauage skills with practical approaches considering usuage in the real professional world. The course helps the students to acquire communicative competence (both acurrate and culturally appropriate usuage of the langauge) in using Japaense for communication in business contexts.
"Business" in this course is defined as "any activity that is related to all professions and is performed by an educated adult in the society." The class learns not only conversational expressions that are useful in the busienss situations but also Japaense business customs, cultures, and society. Several communicative tasks are designed with both language and content purposes, including discussions based on Japanese news from the internet of the students' choices, and final group presentations where students deepen their interests and share with the class. The class also fosters the skill and the knowledge of effective cross-cultural and inter-personal communications.
